Famille Hugel
Pinot Blanc Classic 2013
It is now the most planted varietal in Alsace.
Delicate, subtle and well built, it makes an excellent apéritif because, although nicely rounded, it is also refreshing.
The perfect all-purpose dry white wine, it goes well with country buffets, seafood and white meats

Presentation
Quick View
It is the most approchable wine of Alsace and also the most consistent year in year out. Not far in style from an unoaked Chardonnay such as a Macon or Chablis
The vintage
Rarely have we seen a vintage subject to so many variations in the weather.
The season started late with a damp spring and coulure, causing a smaller than usual crop.
High temperatures and exceptional summer weather brought the grapes to perfect levels of maturity.
Right from the start of our harvest on 1 October the grapes were very healthy and ripe, and so 2013 was a classic Alsace vintage of intense, pure, well balanced wines. Uneven weather at the very end of the harvest prevented any significant production of Late Harvest wines.

In the vineyard
Harvested in the first days of harvest, exclusively by hand, from clay and limestone vineyards in a dozen of the most favoured localities in and around Riquewihr. A cool and long growing season give this unique dry wine great finesse and balanced intensity.
Winemaking
The grapes are taken in small tubs to the presses, which are filled by gravity, without any pumping or other mechanical intervention.
After pressing, the must is decanted for a few hours, then fermented in temperature-controlled barrels or vats (at 18 to 24°C). The wine is racked just once, before natural clarification during the course of the winter. The following spring, the wine is lightly filtered just before bottling, and the bottles are then aged in our cellars until released for sale.
The whole production of this wine is closed with DIAM the cork without the risk of cork taint.

Tasting notes by Serge Dubs, World's Best Sommelier 1989
Youthful pale green in colour, pistachio, verbena leaf, fresh and crystal-clear with some silvery hints.
Refreshing, crisp bouquet, open and expressive, nicely approachable and harmonious, with delicate, subtle fruit.
A dry wine, charmingly soft and supple, with just enough vivacity to make it fresh and clean on the palate, nicely thirst-quenching yet delicately juicy and flattering.
Can be drunk now, or will keep 3 to 5 years thanks to the excellent maturity of the grapes.
A very nice wine to enjoy chilled at 8°C.
Ideal at the start of a meal and to lead on to the next wine...
Its quality/price ratio is perfect.
Recommended with all sea and river fish, poached, grilled, in cream sauce or smoked, to start a meal, with asparagus, jellied mackerel, seafood platter, goat or ewe's milk cheese, or just for the pleasure of enjoying a nice glass of good, digestible white wine.
