Muscat TRADITION 2009

A very dry wine with pronounced grapiness, giving the impression of biting into a fresh Muscat grape, it is perfect as an apéritif and with asparagus.

Presentation

Quick View
Not a sweet wine as many people expect it to be, but a dry and grapey Muscat, full of aromas.
Vintage dedicated to Jean Hugel, the year of his passing.
The vintage
Not only a fabulous vintage in Alsace but, just like in 1990, also a great vintage all over Europe.
2009 was an emotional vintage for us too, without the benevolent presence of "Uncle Johnny", but with a strong symbol as the two young cousins, Jean Frédéric and Marc André, both born in 1989, worked together at their first harvest.
This was a rich but harmonious vintage, with record levels of ripeness, enabling us to produce a full range of wines including, for the first time since 2001, both Riesling VT and SGN.

In the vineyard
This wine is partly composed of 2 young estate plots, including one on the Schoenenbourg planted with Muscat d'Alsace.
Harvested exclusively by hand from the very beginning of harvest to ensure perfectlt sound grapes and good natural levels of acidity.
Winemaking
No skin contact on Muscat in 2009. The grapes are taken in small tubs to the presses, which are filled by gravity, without any pumping or other mechanical intervention.
After pressing, the must is decanted for a few hours, then fermented in temperature-controlled barrels or vats (at 18 to 24°C). The wine is racked just once, before natural clarification during the course of the winter. The following spring, the wine is lightly filtered just before bottling, and the bottles are then aged in our cellars until released for sale.
The whole production of this wine is closed with DIAM the cork without the risk of cork taint.

Tasting notes by Serge Dubs, World's Best Sommelier 1989
Lively fresh young colour, very brilliant pale green. Fine bouquet, subtly muscatel, crisply fruity and floral, invitingly drinkable.
With mouth-filling flavours and aromas of juicy Muscat grapes that joyfully explode on the tongue, softly filling the mouth, the wine has a jaunty exuberance on the finish that makes it dry and refreshing.
Particularly recommended as an aperitif, served at 8°C, it will also go well with goat or ewe cheese, asparagus, marinated herring or mackerel, or even with dishes that have strong or spicy flavours.
Drink over the next 2 years.
