Gewurztraminer JUBILEE 2005

It's our own interpretation of the expected quality of the great terroir of the Sporen vineyard, famous since the XVIIth century. A profound, suave Gewurztraminer with great complexity, it will still improve for years and keep for decades.

Quick View
Great classic Gewurztraminer which will gain in complexity and spiciness for 8 years or more. Its suave and long complex aftertaste will make it the ideal partner to strong cheeses and spicy dishes.
The vintage
The sheer quality of this vintage emerged progressively as the harvest unfolded. Throughout the season the vines were in superb condition, and a true Indian Summer at the end of the harvest enabled us to pick our best vineyards late and under optimum conditions.
Everything indicates that 2005 will be a great vintage. Grapes were healthy and ripe, balanced by excellent acidity. The wines confirm our early optimism, showing great aromatic purity and class on a par with the finest vintages.
In the vineyard
Produced in a selection of the oldest plots of the Hugel estate in the heart of the grand cru Sporen made up of Lias clay-marl, decalcified on the surface, exceptionally rich in phosphoric acid
Winemaking
The grapes are taken in small tubs to the presses, which are filled by gravity, without any pumping or other mechanical intervention.
After pressing, the must is decanted for a few hours, then fermented in temperature-controlled barrels or vats (at 18 to 24°C). The wine is racked just once, before natural clarification during the course of the winter. The following spring, the wine is lightly filtered just before bottling, and the bottles are then aged extensively in our cellars until released for sale.

Tasting notes by Serge Dubs, World's Best Sommelier 1989
An extremely lively young colour, with mainly green reflections, yet its great depth and intensity clearly indicate how its qualities will evolve in the future.
A frank, open wine, strikingly uncomplicated, it has an adorably perfumed aroma of fresh fruit, mango, lychee, passion-fruit, papaya, and a floral bouquet dominated by rose, rose-hip, hawthorn, almond blossom and a host of oriental scents.
It fondly caresses the palate, soft and suave and velvety, yet with an underlying aromatic strength that only Gewurztraminer possesses. A nicely harmonious, well-balanced wine, its lingering finish remains elegant, fresh and young.
Enjoy this fine example of a top-level Gewurztraminer now or keep it for 10 years.
Serve it at 8°C on its own as an aperitif, or between meals, or with fish or meat dishes in highly flavoured or spicy sauce, or with foie gras.
